" Noël-Joseph Clément (1757-1828) became deputy for Nièvre in August 1815, and remained so until May 1818. ONE OF THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE CONTREREVOLUTION, MARQUIS DE RIVIERE (1763-1828) entered the military under the Ancien Régime. During the French Revolution, he emigrated to the service of the Comte d'Artois, whom he followed wherever he went. He carried out numerous missions in France, notably with Stofflet, Charette, Pichegru and Cadoudal. He was shipwrecked, arrested twice, and remained on parole until the end of the Empire. Made lieutenant-general in 1814, he was appointed ambassador to Constantinople in 1815, but Napoleon I's return delayed his posting. After various postings, notably to Corsica, he finally left for Turkey in 1816 and remained there until 1819 - it was he who bought the Venus de Milo, which he offered to France. On his return, he was made duke and peer, and governor of the Duke of Bordeaux.
