Gaston BERTRAND (1910-1994) Pour un hommage à Michel-Ange II, 1955 Oil on canvas Signed and dated lower left Titled, dated and numbered 243 on reverse Small indentation, two small chips in the paint layer lower left 80.5 x 64.5 cm; with frame 82 x 66.5 cm Provenance : - Galerie Jeanne Bucher, Paris. Gaston Bertrand is a painter from Belgium. In February 1944, he exhibited at Galerie Apollo in Belgium. During this period, Gaston Bertrand's work explored the theme of the interior. We notice influences from Evenepoel, Ensor and Picasso in his portraits and beach views. The artist's palette is deliberately neutral. By this time, he was already making regular trips to Paris. He later exhibited in France. From 1949, his painting evolved towards geometric abstraction. Architecture was to play a major role in his future canvases, following numerous trips to Italy. He joined the ranks of Galerie Jeanne Bucher in 1956 when Jeanne Bucher acquired the painting "Pour un hommage à Michel-Ange II", which we present here.
