1968 MGC Sebring WITHOUT RESERVATION - Chassis: GCN11869 - French registration - Vintage preparation by John Chatham in 1972. - Over 170 hp - Original French In the early 1970s, the MGC racing spirit lived on, thanks to the work of British specialists. Among them was John Chatham, driver, tuner and key figure in the MG world, who produced a number of "Sebring" conversions, directly inspired by the cars the brand raced at the 12 Hours of Sebring. Renowned for his methodical approach and intimate knowledge of MG racing models, Chatham has fashioned some of the most sought-after preparations in the field over the years. The example presented here is based on a 1968 French MGC, sent to John Chatham in 1972 at the request of a French customer to be transformed into a Sebring configuration. The car was fitted with the characteristic features of the competition versions: Wider fenders and specific panels, hard-top and roll-bar, targeted lightening in the spirit of endurance cars. On the mechanical side, Chatham applied a complete preparation: three SU HS8 carburetors, competition camshafts, internal modifications to the six-cylinder (details available in the dossier), chassis and braking adjustments adapted to sporting use. All the conversions carried out in 1972 are documented and available on request, enabling the coherence of the work carried out by the Chatham workshop to be appreciated in the context of the period. This MGC Sebring is thus a representative example of the conversions carried out by this tuner, combining the singular aesthetics of the Sebring versions with reworked mechanics in the spirit of MG's sporting commitments. Its direct link with John Chatham and its identified history make it a rare opportunity for any enthusiast of the brand.
