1968 MGC Sebring - Lot 36
1968 MGC Sebring - Chassis: GCN11869 - French registration document - Period preparation carried out by John Chatham in 1972. - Over 170 horsepower - French origin In the early 1970s, the competitive spirit of the MGCs lived on thanks to the work of British specialists. Among them was John Chatham, a driver, tuner and key figure in the MG world, who carried out several ‘Sebring’ conversions, directly inspired by the cars entered by the brand in the 12 Hours of Sebring. Renowned for his methodical approach and intimate knowledge of MG racing models, Chatham has, over the years, created some of the most sought-after conversions in the field. The model presented here is based on a 1968 French MGC, sent to John Chatham in 1972 at the request of a French customer to be converted to the Sebring configuration. The car was then fitted with the characteristic features of the competition versions: Widened wings and specific panels, hard top and roll bar, targeted weight reduction in the spirit of endurance cars. Mechanically, Chatham carried out a complete overhaul: three SU HS8 carburettors, racing camshaft, internal modifications to the six-cylinder engine (details available in the file), chassis and braking adjustments adapted for sporting use. All of the modifications carried out in 1972 are documented and available on request, allowing the consistency of the work carried out by the Chatham workshop in the context of the time to be appreciated. This MGC Sebring is a representative example of the conversions carried out by this tuner, combining the unique aesthetics of the Sebring versions with mechanics reworked in the spirit of MG's sporting commitments. Its direct link to John Chatham and its identified history make it a rare opportunity for any fan of the brand. CORRECTION: We recommend a carburetion check.
