1946 Fargo FL4-60 - Lot 90
1946 Fargo FL4-60 No reserve - Collector's registration - Chassis no. 90063124 - Rare post-war utility vehicle, symbol of industrial renewal and Marshall Plan aid In 1946, in the context of European reconstruction, Dodge relaunched civilian production of its utility vehicles under the Fargo brand. These robust, easy-to-maintain trucks were exported on a massive scale as part of the Marshall Plan to support economic recovery, particularly in France, where they played an active role in restarting agricultural, craft and industrial activities. The Type FL4-60 is a perfect illustration of this period: based on proven military architecture, it adopts a simple, functional civilian body. Its 3,875 cm³ Chrysler in-line 6-cylinder engine develops 95 bhp (19 CV fiscal), combined with a 4-speed manual gearbox with reverse gear. Hydraulic drum brakes on all four wheels ensure stable handling under load. The dropside flatbed body, built by Macdonald Bros Aircraft in Winnipeg (Canada), provides a high transport capacity, up to a GVW of 6,800 kg. This model was restored several years ago (no invoices available) before being put on permanent display in a museum. Having been parked for a long time, it will need a complete overhaul before being put back on the road. For reasons of safety and preservation, it is recommended that it leaves on a suitable platform. A true testament to the industrial and economic history of the post-war era, this Fargo is a singular piece, representative of the arrival of American commercial vehicles in France as part of the Marshall Plan. 1946 Fargo FL4-60 - French registration (collector's title) - Chassis no. 90063124 - Rare post-war utility vehicle, emblematic of the industrial recovery and the Marshall Plan In 1946, as Europe was rebuilding after the war, Dodge resumed civilian production of its utility trucks under the Fargo brand. These robust, simple-to-maintain vehicles were exported to Europe as part of the Marshall Plan, supporting economic recovery and providing essential transport capacity for agriculture, trade, and industry. The FL4-60 embodies this era perfectly. Based on a proven military platform, it adopted a civilian body designed for everyday work. It is powered by a Chrysler 3,875 cc inline-six engine developing 95 hp (19 fiscal hp), coupled to a 4-speed manual gearbox with reverse. Hydraulic drum brakes on all four wheels provide stable braking performance under load. The flatbed body with drop sides, built by Macdonald Bros Aircraft in Winnipeg, Canada, offers a payload capacity of up to 6,800 kg. This particular example was restored several years ago (no invoices available) before being displayed for an extended period in a museum. It has not been driven for some time and will therefore require a full recommissioning before use. For safety and preservation, transport on a suitable trailer is recommended. A direct witness to post-war industrial history, this Fargo is a rare survivor of the American utility vehicles imported into France under the Marshall Plan.
