1964 SOVRA LM1 - Lot 66
1964 SOVRA LM1 No reserve Chassis number: 6252833 Conversion number: 6710 French registration - The French Buggy! - A touching story: in the same hands for over 30 years! - The ultimate summer car - Volkswagen A11 MOD registration The history of the buggy began in 1963, in the golden state of California, with a visionary man: Bruce Meyer. A talented 37-year-old designer, surfing enthusiast and connoisseur of polyester - a material he mastered perfectly to build boards and multihull boats - Meyer one day discovered, with his wife, a group of surfers playing in the dunes of Pismo Beach with atypical machines: the Dune Buggies. Fascinated, he imagined his own polyester mold, and designed a light, playful vehicle based on a Volkswagen, using its chassis and engine. The concept was a dazzling success in the United States, and many manufacturers were inspired by it. In France, SOVRA (Société de Véhicules Récréatifs et Artisanaux) took up the idea with its very first model: the LM1. Strongly inspired by American production, the LM1 was initially offered in kit form, to be assembled on a Beetle base. SOVRA soon went one step further, directly producing complete buggies by transforming carefully selected used Beetles. The model on offer is a genuine SOVRA LM1, assembled from a 1964 Volkswagen Beetle, powered by a 1200 cm³ engine. Although it has not been driven much in recent years, this buggy is in good overall condition, proof of the care taken in its construction. Lighter than a classic Beetle, and equipped with a freed-up sports exhaust, it delivers driving sensations close to those of a Porsche 356, while embodying the free and playful spirit of the Californian buggy. Please note: a small error has crept in on the vehicle registration document, which shows the serial number 6252633 instead of 6252833. We'll have to contact the authorities and the FFVE to rectify the situation. 1964 SOVRA LM1 Chassis number: 6252833 Conversion number: 6710 French registration number - The French Buggy! - A touching story: in the same hands for over 30 years! - The ultimate summer car - Volkswagen A11 MOD registration document The history of the buggy began in 1963, in the golden state of California, with a visionary man: Bruce Meyer.
