1988 KAWASAKI ZX10 TOMCAT - Lot 144
1988 KAWASAKI ZX10 TOMCAT Collector's registration - Revolutionary aluminum frame: the first Kawasaki with an aluminum perimeter frame. - Breathtaking performance: 268 km/h top speed, 400 m DA in 10.3 s. - Recent overhaul: Over €1,900 worth of work carried out. At the end of the 1980s, the hyper-sport war was in full swing, and Kawasaki unleashed the ZX-10, a sharpened machine directly derived from the very exclusive GPZ 1000 RX. Dubbed the "Tomcat" in some markets, it boasts a sleeker design, streamlined fairings and elegantly integrated turn signals. A true concentrate of technology, the ZX-10 marks a major breakthrough for Kawasaki with its all-new aluminum perimeter frame, rigid and lightweight (only 15.5 kg), symbolizing a shift towards a more modern, high-performance design. On the mechanical side, the in-line four-cylinder engine is a direct evolution of the RX's, with a reworked cylinder head and the addition of a balancer to absorb a large proportion of vibrations, for the benefit of comfort and smoothness. The result is a raw power output capable of propelling the machine to 268 km/h and completing the 400 m from a standing start in just 10.3 seconds, figures that put it at the top of its class. Impressive equipment features: 41 mm forks, pneumatically and hydraulically preload-adjustable rear monoshock, 300 mm dual front discs with differentiated piston calipers, fuel and temperature gauges, integrated luggage compartment, seat box, retractable passenger grips, lashing hooks, eccentric chain adjuster, six grease nipples on rear suspension. The example on offer here is a great opportunity for any enthusiast or collector: recently overhauled at a cost of more than €1,900, the bike has benefited from numerous replacements and upgrades: new tires, alternator, fuel gauge, front and rear aviation hoses, brake and clutch seals, rebuilt water circuit, new battery, fuel tap kit.... Technical inspection is the responsibility of the purchaser.
