1924 BSA Round Tank (1926 configuration) - Lot 96
1924 BSA Round Tank (1926 configuration) N° 275601 Collector's registration No reserve - Iconic 1920s line - Period LUCAS elements (lamp, light, retro) - Rare intermediate configuration between 1924 and 1926 A symbol of British engineering between the wars, the BSA Round Tank embodies the beginnings of the utilitarian, accessible and robust motorcycle. Produced by Birmingham Small Arms Company from 1923, it owes its nickname to its iconic cylindrical tank - a design that has become cult among vintage motorcycle enthusiasts. Popular from the outset, it was the first motorcycle of many Englishmen, seduced by its mechanical simplicity and everyday efficiency. The model we're offering for sale is registered in 1924, but features several technical and aesthetic characteristics typical of the 1926 vintage. Its black-painted fuel tank and 3-speed manual gearbox bear witness to this evolution, making it a rare example at the crossroads of two generations. It is powered by a 249 cm³, 4-stroke, single-cylinder, side-valve engine, emblematic of the period for its reliability and flexibility. A special feature of the 1926 model is the so-called "dummy" rear brake and, above all, an ingenious dual activation system linking handbrake and footbrake - an unusual technical detail that underlines the originality of this model. Another plus: it is equipped with a number of period accessories from LUCAS, a leading name in lighting and equipment for two-wheelers in the 1920s. These include an ACETYPHOTE front lamp, a LUCAS taillight and a LUCAS rear-view mirror, all of which add a touch of authenticity. It's worth noting that lighting and speedometer were optional on this model at the time, making them even more valuable today. We recommend that future purchasers carry out the customary recommissioning required to keep these machines in the collector's museum.
