The 1960s were Mini's finest hour. It was bought by stars, and its Cooper version won rallies. In 1965, the brand derived a sports coupé from it. The following year, the Beatles each received a copy, and George Harrison decorated it with hippy designs. In the mid-1960s, the Mini became a symbol of Swinging London at the height of Beatlemania. In France, Brigitte Bardot drove around Saint-Tropez in this car, while Jacques Dutronc sang "Mini Moke et minijupe [...] Tout est mini dans notre vie". The mini became a fashion accessory, young and sexy, often colorful.
We're interested in the sporty version, the Cooper!
A certain John Cooper, creator of the mid-engined Formula 1, bet on the Mini for its sporting vocation: the car is extremely maneuverable and light, and lacks only power and reliability. The result was a 997 cm3 displacement, a higher compression ratio, two S.U. carburetors and a modified exhaust system, all of which boosted horsepower from 34 to 55. For greater safety, the drum brakes were replaced by discs at the front, giving the little 620 kg box some very serious trump cards.
According to the Heritage Trust, this Cooper was delivered new in France on December 1, 1965, with the following specifications: left-hand drive, De-Luxe model. Its exterior colors were "Old English White and Black". The interior was "Red and Gold". These original configurations still apply today. Of course, it still has its original engine. It was bought by a collector from Alfortville (94) in 2009. He will carry out a complete restoration in 2010-2011: mechanics, bodywork, brakes, suspension, electricity. The car is then serviced by Davy Geoffroy in Montmerle (01).
It's rare to find a Mini Cooper in its original Matching Numbers configuration. We offer you this opportunity.
