Sèvres Cabaret porcelain named Cabaret des femmes célèbres with polychrome decoration of portraits of women in bust in medallions surrounded by a gold frame bearing the name of the woman inscribed, the medallions stand out on a green chromium background decorated with garlands of flowers and fruits, ribbons, butterflies and swans in gold, the center of the saucers is decorated with an antique trophy in gold. The women represented are Christine, Queen of Sweden, Anne of Austria, Mary Stuart, Elizabeth of England, Maria Theresa of Austria, Catherine II of Russia, Blanche of Castile, Joan of Arc, Anne Martinozi Princess of Conti, Hortense Mancini, Princess Palatine, Mrs. Dehoulières, Mrs. de Sevigne, the Duchess of Montmouth, Madame de Fontange, Mme de Grignan It includes a covered teapot called the Asselin teapot, a covered sugar pot called the sugar pot with a covered volute handle, a milk pot called the Greek milk pot, a bowl called the hemispherical fruit bowl, eight cups and their saucer called the Jasmine cups with a fluted base. The portraits are signed: Mrs. Jaquotot. On the reverse side: mark of the Sèvres imperial manufacture: M. Imple de Sevres 1811 and 1812, Jaquotot pinxit and various marks of setting in green. L'EMPIRE À FONTAINEBLEAU 120LUNDI 22 MARCH 2021 Provenance: Presented as a gift by Empress Marie-Louise to the Countess of Segur on 1 January 1813 at the Tuileries Castle. In October 1806, Alexandre Brongniart, director of the Sèvres manufactory, defined the subjects of new cabarets, that of the French Warriors, the cabaret of the French Literators, the cabaret of painters, sculptors and musicians or the cabaret of famous women other than by their beauty in order, he wrote, to give "interest and value to these kinds of services and to prepare suitable gifts". The cabaret of famous women resonates as an echo to the figures of the Great Men imagined by the Count d'Angiviller from 1776 onwards. However, the aim is no longer to celebrate exclusively those who have made France great, but the women of Europe, who have become illustrious through their talent, their commitment, their work or their power. For the cabaret of famous women, Brongniart listed in 1806 twenty women, sovereigns of Europe, women known for their political action, women of letters, painters, scientists. He entrusted the realization of the portraits of these women to Marie-Victoire Jaquotot (1772-1855), a porcelain painter who, according to him, did very well portraits of women. From January 1807, the pieces with green backgrounds were brought from Sèvres to 48 rue de Bondy in Paris to Madame Jaquotot's home, where she worked from her studio equipped with a muffle kiln. A first cabaret of famous women comprising twelve cups and four shaped pieces was completed in December 1807 and delivered on December 31 to Caroline Murat. Its current location is unknown. A second cabaret of famous women of the same composition was delivered in 1810 and 1811 to Princess Pauline Borghèse (Sotheby's Paris, 18 December 2001, lot 421, then Rieunier Bailly Pommery, Hôtel Drouot, 30 June 2003, then Christie's, Paris, 8 November 2013, lot 29. Our lunch, complete and hitherto unpublished, is the third and last cabaret of famous women, painted by Madame Jaquotot in 1811 and 1812. It was offered on June 24, 1812 to Her Majesty the Empress Josephine and describes a cabaret with a green chromium background and portraits of famous women painted in miniature by Made Jaquotot, a rich gold decoration composed of 8 Large Jasmine Cups.................................... 400 .......... 3200 1 Sugar Pot .................................. 700 1 Milk Pot ........... 425 1 Theyere .................................. 700 1 Milk Bowl .......... 1100 1 Box for the said cabaret lined in white satin and raised in leather in leather 180 or 6305. Like the Egyptian service, another gift from the Emperor to Josephine, the cabaret of famous women is sent back by her to the manufactory. It was then delivered to the Tuileries Palace on 28 December 1812 to be offered as a gift by Marie-Louise. The register in the archives of the Sèvres manufactory specifies its composition : the teapot is Asselin-shaped, the stemmed sugar pot with a volute handle, the milk jug is Greek-shaped, the hemispherical bowl and the box covered in green skin. The Empress gave it to the Countess of Segur on 1 January 1813 (Arch. Sèvres Vbb4 f° 13 and Vy21, f° 32). Antoinette Élisabeth Marie d'Aguesseau (1756-1828), granddaughter of the chancellor of Aguesseau, married in 1777 Count Louis-Philippe de Ségur, a diplomat, politician and academician.
