DINING ROOM OR DRINK-SERVING CABINET, - Lot 165
DINING ROOM OR DRINK-SERVING CABINET, Made of veneered wood with inlaid decorations featuring ornate frames and cartouches. It opens with two drawers above two doors that reveal a shelf. It stands on curved legs joined by a crossbar and adorned with latticework. It bears a brand mark of “CP” crowned with an anchor, originally belonging to the Duke of Choiseul and later to the Duke of Penthièvre at the Château de Chanteloup. Transitional period. Beautiful ornamentation of chiseled and gilded bronze, including leaf-and-shell-decorated handles, lock plates, and leaf-decorated feet. Breccia marble top surrounded by an openwork mold. Height: 103 cm; Width: 86 cm; Depth: 33 cm (restorations). This piece is reminiscent of the work of Jean-François or Simon Oeben; a chest of drawers attributed to one of them was offered at Sotheby’s on September 23, 2020 (lot 98), also from the same château.
