REISET, Armand-Henri, Count of. Fashions and Customs in the - Lot 22
REISET, Armand-Henri, Count of. Fashions and Customs in the Time of Marie Antoinette. Paris: Firmin Didot, 1885; 2 vols., small quarto, red coarse-grained half-maroquin, with corner pieces, gilt fillet, smooth spines adorned lengthwise with gilt fillets and dotted lines interrupted by 3 large fleurs-de-lis, gilt heads, covers (P. Ruban). The work consists largely of the journal of Madame Éloffe, Marie-Antoinette’s other dressmaker. It is illustrated with 200 reproduced engravings, 68 of which are in color, while others are applied heliogravures. “This diary spans the years 1787 to 1793 and is of particular interest to those fascinated by fashion and court life, offering insight into Queen Marie-Antoinette’s expenses for her wardrobe” (Fierro, no. 510). A luxurious publication, beautifully bound by Pétrus Ruban, an excellent craftsman from Lyon (1851–1929). Colas, no. 1533.
