1963 MERCEDES-BENZ 300SE - Lot 127
1963 MERCEDES-BENZ 300SE • Registration: French • Chassis number: 11202112002738 - Sought-after W111 model - Only 3 owners since new. - Same owner for 24 years - Originally registered in France - Serviced in 2026 at Carage: €5,000 in invoices Introduced in 1961, the Mercedes-Benz 300 SE quickly established itself as the top of the line and the brand’s technological showcase in the early 1960s. While it features the body of the W111 and its famous, distinctive rear fenders—known as the “Heckflosse”—it stands out for its cutting-edge mechanics. Its 3.0-liter M189 inline-six engine, made entirely of aluminum and derived from the legendary 300 SL, combines mechanical fuel injection with an output of 170 ch. A true showcase of innovation, the 300 SE came standard with adjustable air suspension—offering remarkable ride comfort—four disc brakes, power steering, and a four-speed automatic transmission. This Mercedes-Benz 300 SE Coupé was delivered new in France in 1963 through the importer Royal Élysée, as evidenced by its manufacturer’s plate and original service booklets. Having had only three successive owners, all based in the Lyon area, it has retained its original license plate number, 6995 BT 69. The current owner acquired it in 2002; at which time the car belonged to Mr. Hugonnier, who had owned it since 1975. Retaining its original upholstery, floor mats, overhead light, and Becker Mexico car radio, this 300 SE has recently undergone several restorations. In 2026, the bodywork was repainted on the left side as well as on the right front and rear fenders by Carrosserie Bakanyi at a cost of €1,500. A mechanical overhaul, costing 5,000 €, was also performed by Carage. This included, notably, the replacement of the compressor and alternator belts, as well as the coupling between the alternator and the water pump. This 1963 Mercedes-Benz 300 SE Coupé thus stands out for its exceptionally clear ownership history: only three owners since new, a registration number retained since delivery, and a history closely tied to the Lyon region. This example has managed to preserve a large portion of its original components while receiving the care necessary for its preservation.
