Jules RICHARD (1848-1930), an engineer, came from a Lyon family whose father, Félix RICHARD (1809-1876), was a well-known barometer builder based in Paris. In 1876, Jules and his two brothers, Félix Maxime (1856-1949) and Georges (1863-1922), succeeded him and set up the company RICHARD Frères. They considerably developed this industry by building recording instruments for meteorology. In 1891, the company was dissolved and renamed Jules RICHARD. He became a member of the Société Astronomique de France in 1894. He was named Commandeur de la Légion d'honneur in 1925. (https://archives.essonne.fr/ark:/28047/hwn840m1k2sb)
