ENGRAVED BY GIUSEPPE VASI (1710-1782) - Lot 2
ENGRAVED BY GIUSEPPE VASI (1710-1782) "View of the Castel Sant'Angelo in Rome from the Porta Castello". Framed antique engraving. Period: 18th century. Sight size: H. 19 x W. 29 cm. Note: Giuseppe Vasi (1710-1782) was an 18th-century Italian artist and engraver, renowned for his views and panoramas of Rome. Vasi stands out for his exceptional talent in capturing the cityscapes and monuments of the Eternal City, at a time when Rome was a center of artistic and cultural activity. His engravings are a veritable source of visual documentation of 18th-century Rome, often produced in etching and published in works such as "Vedute di Roma" (Views of Rome), of which our engraving is a part (1746). Through his work, he succeeded in blending architectural precision with artistic sensitivity, offering his contemporaries and future generations a window on the city's past. His works influenced not only the art of engraving, but also the iconography of Baroque Rome, helping to spread its image throughout Europe.
