L'ÉPÉE 1839 / MBF - Lot 176
L'ÉPÉE 1839 / MBF Hot Balloon — Black Edition. Ref: 74.6002/204. Year: 2020. Case: black anodized steel hot air balloon, openwork balloon with black spiral pattern, palladium gondola, burners serving as visible exhaust. Dial: two rotating drums stacked at the base of the balloon, flame-shaped hand indicating hours and minutes. Movement: mechanical, hand-wound; wound by rotating the basket. Visible escapement. Limited edition of 50 pieces. Can be placed on a table or suspended from the ceiling. Set: original box, L'Épée certificate and instruction manual, hanging kit, and L'ÉPÉE gloves. Height: 31 cm. Condition: new. An exceptional piece resulting from the iconic collaboration between the L'Épée 1839 — one of France’s oldest watchmaking houses, founded in 1839 in Sainte-Suzanne — and MBF (Maximilian Büsser Friends), pioneers of conceptual watchmaking. This black anodized steel hot air balloon is one of only 50 pieces ever produced in this exclusive finish. Its manual-winding mechanism, activated by simply rotating the basket, is a testament to both horological and sculptural genius. A rare collector’s item in mint condition, it is as much an investment as it is a work of kinetic art.
