Henry DASSON (1825-1896) - Lot 25
Henry DASSON (1825-1896) Important ormolu and chased cartel, the base decorated with a Cupid on clouds holding a scythe and resting on an arched cornice underlined by oval interlacing; the openwork sides with lattice work and flowers; the reeded feet; the dial with three enamelled plates signed Henry Dasson in Paris, surmounted by a female mascaron. Pendulum. Louis XV style, late 19th century 82 x 38 x 17 cm (slight restoration to the enamel and small missing parts) Nota : Like François Linke, Henri Dasson (1825-1896) specialized in furniture and furnishing bronzes based on the most famous models of the 17th and 18th centuries. In 1871, he began producing furniture and bronze furnishings, which brought him great success. In 1889, at the pinnacle of his art and career, Dasson presented an exceptional exhibition of works featuring all the old styles, and won a major artistic prize. He sometimes copied an earlier model, as can be assumed from this cartel inspired by André-Charles BOULLE. Compare with the cartel clock by Charles Cressent (1685-1768) for the Dauphine's bedroom, in the apartments created for Louis de France and Maria Theresa of Spain in the south wing of the Château de Versailles for their wedding in 1745. By the mid-1730s, Cressent had created a type of cartel that was to bring him great success. Alexandre Pradère, author of Charles Cressent, sculpteur et ébéniste du Régent (ed. Faton, 2003), describes it as "the first model".
