AUBUSSON - Lot 144
AUBUSSON Rare Aubusson tapestry Based on the seven deadly sins Title: Vices and Virtues Wool and silk (for detail and light) Low-warp work Traditional Aubusson weaving Good condition Warm color palette (ochre, brown, garnet red, green, pearl gray and pink) Age-related patina Narrative and abundant representation of multiple characters inspired by ancient models of the Middle Ages and Renaissance (inspired by ancient engravings). We observe couples, social interactions (the passages of life, the nativity, the seasons, music, dance, offerings, evoking an allegory of human life and an implicit opposition between behaviors (vice / virtue). In this allegorical scene of Gothic and Renaissance inspiration, we see a rather ratez allegorical staging in a plant and architectural decor, in the background, a perspective of hunting scenes and finely drawn castles. Border decorated with rows of fleur-de-lys 19th century 260 cm high x 245 cm wide Tapestry having been cleaned and lined (new lining) Note: Beautiful decorative tapestry by Aubusson, illustrating a complex allegorical scene in a neo-Gothic setting drawn from the seven deadly sins, representing a definite decorative interest and value on the antique textile market, in a moral but not didactic atmosphere.
