FLANDERS Exceptional Oudenaarde Tapestry Panel In wool and silk Remarkably fresh colors (green and ochre palette) Title: aux animaux fantastiques et réels : au griffon et au Lynx . We see a hybrid animal (griffon type, Chimera: head and wings of a bird, with the body of a Lion confronting a spotted feline (Lynx or stylized leopard) in a background of lush forest, densely wooded landscapes with a village in perspective. This decor was intended to adorn castles, rather than tell a specific story. We speak of animal greenery or greenery with ferocious beasts. These fights have a symbolic value (strength, domination, exoticism).
