Martin Nicolas DELAPORTE - Lot 225
Martin Nicolas DELAPORTE Louis XVI-style bergère, made of gray-refinished wood, molded and carved with scrollwork and a canopy featuring rosette-shaped joints, tapered, fluted legs with serrated edges. It bears the stamp “M Delaporte,” for Martin Nicolas DELAPORTE, who was granted master status in 1765. The brother of Antoine Nicolas, and like him a chairmaker, he worked on Rue des Filles-Dieu, perhaps in the workshop of his uncle Martin Delaporte, whom he had succeeded. Given that his uncle died in 1756, the Louis XVI chairs marked “M Delaporte” suggest that Martin Nicolas used the same hallmark to sign his works. H. 96 x W. 68 x D. 54 cm (Signs of wear and damage, gaps in the repainting.)
