Jeanne Philiberte LEDOUX (1767-1840) - Lot 453
Jeanne Philiberte LEDOUX (1767-1840) Portrait of a young girl Oil on panel H_46 cm W_37 cm In a carved and gilded wood pediment frame Jeanne Philiberte Ledoux was a pupil of Jean-Baptiste Greuze (1725-1805). She assimilated his style, particularly in portraiture, a genre she was particularly particularly fond of. Our painting is typical of her production and brilliantly continues the work of her master. While the model is clearly inspired by Greuze's portraits of young girls, the touch, is more modern, bringing an almost pre-romantic sensibility, while retaining a palette resolutely inherited from his master. Recently revived by the Petit Palais exhibition, the theme of childhood a singular charm in Greuze's work, a charm that Ledoux delicately extends in the shadow of his master's brush.
