Presumed portrait of Marie Lesczinska, circa 1750
Oil on canvas
H_65 cm W_57 cm
Oxidized varnish, restoration
Our painting is a presumed portrait of Marie Lesczinska. Painted in an oval trompe-l'œil
in trompe-l'œil, she is depicted wearing her hair in the fashion of the French court in the
in the 1750s, reminiscent of the painting by Jean Marc Nattier
Nattier's painting in the Musée Cognacq-Jay, or the portrait of Françoise de
Graffigny, author of Lettre d'une Péruvienne by Maurice Quentin de la Tour (1704-
1788).
