ITALIAN SCHOOL CIRCA 1900 AFTER THE ANTIQUE Augustus Prima Porta Bust Gilded bronze bust H. 68 cm Wear to gilding, accidents, oxidation. Reference work : -Augustus imperator of the Villa Porta, c. AD 14, marble, H. 207 cm, Vatican Museums, Rome, inv. 2290 Note. This bust is reminiscent of the productions of the Chiurazzi foundry, considered one of the most prestigious of the XIXᵉ century in the production of antique-inspired bronzes, brought back as souvenirs by travelers on the Grand Tour. The foundry distinguished itself in particular by acquiring a high profile, not least thanks to its production of casts from bronze objects discovered during excavations, which it then used as models for its castings.
