Antoine Louis BARYE (1795-1875), after - Lot 224
Antoine Louis BARYE (1795-1875), after Equestrian statue of "Le Duc d'Orléans". Bronze with verdigris patina. Signed on the terrace. Height: 37 cm W : 29 cm D : 11 cm. Bibliography: - SP F5 page 55 - PR F3 pages 65, 66 with indication: Louis-Philippe's eldest son and heir to the throne, an aesthete and liberal prince, the Duc d'Orléans died at the age of thirty-three, on July 13, 1842. He played an important role in Barye's career: by commissioning a tabletop figure, he enabled the budding artist to establish himself as the Romantic sculptor of his generation. This equestrian statue is the sculptor's posthumous tribute to his patron. - An early cast before 1902 in bronze with a greenish-brown patina is in the Musée du Louvre (Legacy Thomy-Thiéry, 1902, inv. OA 5736).
