A.B. PELLERIN (active in the 19th century) - Lot 175
A.B. PELLERIN (active in the 19th century) Portrait of Mignard after Largillière Painting on porcelain. H_20 cm L_14.5 cm In its original frame. Slight firing defects. Our porcelain plaque is a reproduction of the portrait of Pierre Mignard (1612-1695) by Nicolas de Largillière (1656-1746), executed by Mme. A. B. Pellerin. It is possible that this plate came from the Manufacture de Sèvres, was not marketed and was sold directly to the artist. Mme Pellerin seems to belong to the circle of women artists who worked for the Manufacture de Sèvres or other Parisian factories, following in the footsteps of Marie-Victoire Jaquotot (1772-1855), a major figure in porcelain painting in the early 19th century. At the Salon of 1834, Pellerin presented several miniatures on porcelain, executed after masters such as Philippe de Champaigne, Jaquotot and others. These works testify to the practice of transposing older painted compositions onto porcelain, an approach typical of Sèvres production at the time.
