CONDÉ (Louis-Joseph de Bourbon, prince de). Letter signed "Louis-Joseph de Bourbon" to Marie-Françoise Du Bouillonney-Orgères. Paris, January 28, 1757. One p. in-4, address on spine with red wax armorial seal. REPLY TO NEW YEAR'S GREETINGS FROM A DEMOISELLE DE SAINT-CYR. "I received your letter, Mademoiselle, and was pleased to see your eagerness to share your feelings with me. The best way for you to show them to me is to continue your fervent prayers, in which I have great confidence. I am convinced that you are very a[p]plicated to take advantage of the good education you receive in the house where you are, I urge you to give it all your care, and I will be all the more at ease to ap[p]pt your progress that I am truly interested, Mademoiselle, in what concerns you..." A prince of the blood, Louis-Joseph de Bourbon-Condé (1736-1818) led a military career that began during the Seven Years' War, and, during the Revolution, he assembled and commanded an army of émigrés. He owned the Palais Bourbon, Hôtel de Lassay and Château de Chantilly, among other buildings.
