MARIE-ANTOINETTE D'AUTRICHE. - Lot 11
MARIE-ANTOINETTE D'AUTRICHE. - Set of 3 plates bound in 2 volumes. SOMETIMES FREE PAMPHLETS DIRECTED AGAINST MARIE-ANTOINETTE. - ESSAI HISTORIQUE SUR LA VIE PRIVÉE DE MARIE-ANTOINETTE D'AUTRICHE, reine de France. S.l.n.n., 1789. In-8, worn half-basane (period binding). With numerous editions and forgeries, this libel was produced between 1776 and 1781, and circulated first in manuscript and then in print, but all copies were destroyed by the police in 1783. Without proof, the work was sometimes attributed to Jacques-Pierre Brissot, and generally to Pierre-Antoine-Auguste Goupil Des Pallières, inspector of the bookshop, a troubled man who is known to have profited from the publication of libels against the Queen, and who, locked up in Vincennes in 1778, died there in 1780. A second text would soon be added. - ODE À LA REINE. S.l.n.n., 1789. In-8, bound with the preceding platelet. Violent piece of satirical verse generally attributed to the poet Ponce-Denis Écouchard-Lebrun. - PORTE-FEUILLE D'UN TALON ROUGE. Contenant des anecdotes galantes secrettes de la Cour de France. À Paris, de l'imprimerie du comte de Paradès. Year 178*. Small in-8, half-percaline bradel with gilt title on spine (binding circa 1900).
