INDY (Vincent d'). Set of 18 letters. 1888-1925 and n.d. - Lot 93
INDY (Vincent d'). Set of 18 letters. 1888-1925 and n.d. -To baritone Numa Augez. Paris, December 24, 1891. "Would it be possible for you to give us the great pleasure of singing Franck's role of Rebecca (you know it well) on Saturday, January9, at the Salle Pleyel?..." -To orchestra conductor Édouard Colonne. S.l., December 29, 1891. "Let me tell you how grateful I am for the double performance of my Lied and for the care you have taken to bring it to light. I am delighted to be back in the Salle du Châtelet, where I made my musical debut under your direction, and to owe you the pleasure of being presented to your public in such excellent conditions..." -To Edouard Colonne. Valence, November 6, 1893. "I have the greatest confidence in you for the interpretation of Wallenstein and cannot give you detailed indications, as I do not have the scores here, but I am at ease and know perfectly well that you do not need to be directed. Apart from certain bow strokes (which you will inevitably rectify during the work) I have never had to change anything in this score in the course of the many performances I have conducted or supervised both in Paris and abroad, and I don't think you would risk anything by sticking to the simple indications in the score, for I have, I repeat, never modified anything in it, either in terms of movements or nuances, and it has always been performed as it is. There are still a few faults in the engraved parts... but as I don't have the score, I can't tell you what the others are, as they are of little importance..." -Etc. Joint: 3pieces, including a letter from composer Gustave Samazeuilh to music critic Bernard Gavoty about his "master" Vincent d'Indy (1941).
