METTERNICH (Klemens Wenzel Lothar von). "The emperor... having appointed me his ambassador in Paris..." Autograph letter signed, in French, to his "dear Édouard" [de Moustier]. Vienna, May 23, 1806. One p. in-4. "The emperor... having appointed me his ambassador in Paris, I ask you for twenty rensemens on the best workers, fabricans a. I know that you know the cream of them, I have no desire to be the dupe of all the wretches who only wait for the arrival of a member of the diplomatic corps to make him pay dearly for all their bad goods. I am counting on your friendship to be sure that you will not refuse the work I ask of you; rob[z] the pleasures of Dresden of just enough to note down for me the names of the homes of all the most perfect tailors, shoemakers and upholsterers you knowaa. Come and see me there soon, and be sure of the pleasure I shall have in welcoming you..."
