KISLING (Moses). Autograph letter signed "Kiki" to Ruth Thom - Lot 31
KISLING (Moses). Autograph letter signed "Kiki" to Ruth Thomas in New York. Paris, January 5, 1948. 2pp. in-folio. "Your letter of Dec. 20 reached me here the day before yesterday, and I hasten to send you my most sincere wishes for the 48th. I could not understand the non-answer to my last letter and now I understand, my poor Ruth, that you have been very ill. The explanation that it was nerves doesn't tell me much and I hope one day I'll know better. In the meantime, I see you're doing very well and I have a thousand questions on my tongue about your life in New York, your present and future plans. Since you're no longer crazy, I hope you'll tell me all about it in your next letter, which I hope will come soon! As for me? A lot has happened since I arrived in France [Moïse Kisling was exiled to the United States during the war]. As you can see, I'm not in Sanary and I've decided to settle permanently in Paris. Many factors played a part in this, the most important of which was that I had spent all my money and had to earn money, lots of money! To live, and that's something I can only find in Paris. And then, despite the fact that I'm very good friends with my wife, I've come to the conclusion that it's very difficult to live with one woman in one house. The older I get, the more terrible I become! You must have realized this a long time ago. I work a lot, but I'll work better in a couple of months when I've moved into a magnificent workshop that I've just rented, but which requires a lot of work in there..."
