Son of the renowned engraver Reinier Vinkeles, he grew up in an artistic environment that had a profound influence on his training. He learned drawing and engraving techniques at an early age, developing a precise, mastered style. His works frequently depict animal scenes, especially horses, as well as compositions inspired by everyday life and hunting scenes. His line is characterized by meticulous attention to detail and a sense of movement that brings his subjects to life. Although less famous than his father, Johannes Vinkeles was part of the Dutch artistic tradition of the late 18th century, marked by a taste for realistic observation and precise drawing. His career was relatively short, as he died around 1814.
