A Boule de Genève is a pendant watch in the shape of a small ball or sphere originating from Geneva (Switzerland). The dial is usually at the bottom of the sphere, facing the ground, opposite the top ring, although some models have a front face. This object of virtue was often accompanied by a matching brooch, chain or chatelaine. The term "Boule de Genève" is generic and does not mean that a given watch was necessarily made in the city or canton of Geneva. Most early "boules" were unsigned, but others were sold by jewelry houses such as Cartier, Tiffany's or Van Cleef Arpels, and still others marketed by watch brands. Temporary import The buyer will have to pay an import fee of 5.5% on top of the hammer price, unless the item is immediately re-exported outside the European Union. Work in temporary import The buyer will have to pay import fees of 5.5% in addition to the hammer price, unless the buyer immediately re-exports the lot outside the European Union.
