1979 TOYOTA LAND CRUISER BJ 40 - Lot 64
1979 TOYOTA LAND CRUISER BJ 40 • Dutch registration, French registration in progress • Chassis number: BJ40023842 • First owner until 2014 • Legendary 4x4 • 37,000 km (original mileage) • No prior inspection records In 1960, a new model arrived: the 40 Series. The "BJ40" models adopted a less industrial design. It drew inspiration from both the Willys Jeep and the Land Rover. The model designation remained the same. The "B" models were equipped with 3-liter 4-cylinder diesel engines producing 80 hp (BJ40). As for the number following the 4, it denotes the chassis length, ranging from very short (40) to very long (46), with the latter able to accommodate up to eight passengers thanks to two rear side benches. The Toyota shown here is a 1979 BJ40 with a short chassis. This model is equipped with the 3.0-liter 4-cylinder diesel engine, introduced by the manufacturer in 1974, as well as a front-mounted winch. This example was purchased new by a member of the Beckers family, then a Toyota dealer in Maaseik, Belgium, who remained the owner until 2014. The vehicle joined its current owner’s collection in 2021, during which time it has seen little use. A recent test drive of about 30 kilometers confirmed that the vehicle is in good working order, with no notable issues. The odometer reads approximately 37,000 km. This figure is consistent with a maintenance sticker dating from 1995, which at the time indicated 26,740 km. Uncommon for this type of vehicle, the technical inspection record is completely blank. The vehicle’s well-preserved overall condition reflects its original state, consistent with its usage history. This Toyota Land Cruiser model, renowned for its mechanical robustness, represents a milestone in the history of off-road vehicles from this era and will appeal to enthusiasts of the brand. 1979 TOYOTA LAND CRUISER BJ 40 · Dutch registration, French registration in progress · Serial number: BJ40023842 · Single-owner vehicle until 2014 · Legendary 4x4 · 37,000 km (original mileage) · In excellent overall condition In 1960, a new model arrived: the 40 series.
