1955 FORD THUNDERBIRD CONVERTIBLE - Lot 62
1955 FORD THUNDERBIRD CONVERTIBLE • French classic car registration • VIN: P5FH254422 • 292 cu. in. V8 engine • 3-speed automatic transmission Created in response to the Corvette’s arrival a year earlier, the Thunderbird adopted the same formula of a small two-seater convertible, but featured a V8 where the Chevrolet had to make do with a six-cylinder engine. In its first year on the market, 1955, Ford sold 16,000 units: an immediate success that confirmed the American market’s appetite for this type of car. The 4,788 cc V8 engine with a four-barrel carburetor produced 193 hp and was paired with a three-speed manual transmission. The front suspension is independent. The design, with its characteristic hardtop and canvas soft top, remains one of the most recognizable silhouettes of American automobiles from the 1950s. The example presented here, chassis number P5FH254422, rolled off the assembly line in 1955 in the United States before being acquired by its current owner in 2018. The vehicle is in good overall condition, clean both inside and out, reflecting a previous restoration. Note that there are a few minor spots of corrosion, which are not serious. The engine starts and the vehicle runs. An invoice from 2026 documents the carburetor tuning and the installation of an electronic ignition system for a total of €1,200. The odometer currently reads 12,996 miles. The car is in good overall condition and roadworthy, a great opportunity to acquire one of the most iconic American convertibles of the 1950s. 1955 FORD THUNDERBIRD CONVERTIBLE • French classic car registration certificate • VIN: P5FH254422 • 292 ci V8 engine • 3-speed automatic transmission Created in response to the Corvette’s arrival a year earlier, the Thunderbird adopted the same formula of a small two-seater convertible, but featured a V8 where the Chevrolet had to make do with a six-cylinder.
