1948 Chrysler Town Country Convertible ** - Lot 42
1948 Chrysler Town Country Convertible ** No reserve Chassis: 7407321 Type C39N 8.2L Cadillac V8 engine Registration in progress The New Yorker lineup shared its technical and structural foundation with the Royal, Windsor, and Saratoga models. Positioned in a higher segment, the model had prices ranging from $1,825 to $2,725 in 1946, justifying the addition of two specific body styles: a two-door, six-seat “all-steel” convertible, as well as a Town and Country-style convertible, complementing the already available hardtop version. This convertible is built on the short-wheelbase chassis (308 cm), while the sedans used a 354 cm platform. The lacquered wood trim consists of ash for the light sections and Honduran mahogany for the dark panels. This example has been part of the same collection for many years. It has undergone a major mechanical modification with the installation of an 8.2-liter (500 cu in) Cadillac V8 engine paired with its automatic transmission. The powertrain is operational and the gear ratios engage; however, the fuel tank is deteriorated and will need to be replaced before any use. The vehicle features a stabilized vintage restoration. The electro-hydraulic convertible top is functional and its upholstery is preserved, as are the chrome trim and the custom alligator-skin-style upholstery. Apart from the powertrain, the main modification from the original configuration concerns the dashboard instrumentation, which has been replaced with aviation-inspired gauges. This Chrysler Town and Country represents a milestone in American automotive design from the immediate post-war period. This 1946 Chrysler New Yorker Town and Country convertible stands out for its bodywork, which combines steel with ash and mahogany wood trim. Long-time owned by a single owner, this example has been fitted with an 8.2-liter Cadillac V8 engine and automatic transmission for simplified operation. **Sold on behalf of a member of SAS Osenat. 1948 Chrysler Town Country Convertible Chassis: 7407321 Type C39N 8.2L Cadillac V8 engine Vehicle registration in progress The New Yorker lineup shared its technical and structural foundation with the Royal, Windsor, and Saratoga models.
