This sheet, in fine condition, evokes the Roman countryside landscapes painted by Gaspard
Dughet, himself inspired by Poussin. In his wake, many of the artists training in Rome
Rome devoted themselves to life drawing. The freedom of line and the anecdotal
anecdotal - even romantic - character of this scene suggest a French hand,
such as Étienne Allegrain, Georges Focus, Jean Forest and Charles Hérault.
