JOSÉPHINE (future Empress). Letter signed "Lapagerie Bonapar - Lot 434
JOSÉPHINE (future Empress). Letter signed "Lapagerie Bonaparte" [probably to Martin Gaudin]. Paris, 17 floréal an VIII [May 7, 1800]. One p. in-8 square; two crossed-out words still legible. "I am sending you... the petition of c[itoyen] Calabre, now national forestry agent at Compiègne. He is applying for the position of inspector in the same arrondissement. His knowledge of this area, his morality and his good conduct in the exercise of his duties as agent, lead me to invite you to kindly welcome and support him...". From October 1795 to January 1801, the national forests were attached to the Régie de l'enregistrement et du domaine, which was then part of the Ministry of Finance, headed by Martin Gaudin throughout the Consulate and Empire.
