Length: 25.5 cm. Width: 8 cm. Biography : Claude NOISOT (1787-1861). Captain and former grenadier in the Old Imperial Guard, Claude Noisot accompanied Napoleon on his exile to Elba. He took part in the Austrian, Spanish, Russian, Saxon and French campaigns between 1809 and 1814. After the fall of the First Empire in 1815, he retired from military life. Settling in Paris, he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts and became a miniaturist, while remaining one of the Emperor's most fervent admirers. When he retired to Fixin, Burgundy, in 1835, he built a stone house, an exact replica of the one Napoleon occupied on Elba. Here, he collected numerous imperial souvenirs. The future Napoleon III inaugurated the museum in September 1847. The same year, he commissioned sculptor François Rude to create a bronze statue entitled "Le Réveil de Napoléon ou Napoléon s'éveillant à l'immortalité", to adorn the village of Fixin. Finally, Noisot had a hundred steps laid out in his park, symbolizing the Hundred Days, and planted vines, giving rise to the Clos Noisot or Clos Napoléon.
