The Renault Frégate is presented at the 1951 Paris Motor Show as Renault's new top-of-the-range model. To appeal to a more exclusive clientele, Renault called on several coachbuilders, including Letourneur Marchand, who produced just 69 cabriolets between 1953 and 1959.
These handcrafted creations benefited from a specific exterior and interior treatment - enlarged radiator grille, canvas soft top, reinforced chrome and a more meticulous finish - while retaining the sedan's mechanical base for proven reliability. At the time, this model was used in prestigious official capacities, notably by Prince Rainier of Monaco and Queen Elizabeth II.
The model presented here, registered in November 1959, is one of the last to be produced, and one of only eight based on Transfluide. Restored in the 1990s in an elegant two-tone beige livery with havana leather interior, it is fitted with Robergel wheels and Robri accessories. The customer tells us that the brake system was overhauled less than a year ago.
A particularly rare piece of French automotive heritage, this Frégate Letourneur Marchand testifies to the excellence of post-war French coachbuilders and the elegance of prestige cabriolets produced in very small series.
