1978 MOTO GUZZI - Lot 26
1978 MOTO GUZZI Le Mans series 1 Serial number 15283 French registration The story of the first Moto Guzzi Le Mans began with the chassis designed by Lino Tonti for a factory prototype to compete in the 1972 Bol d'Or. The ultimate evolution of this project distinguished itself in 1973 at the 24 Hours of Monjuïc, near Barcelona, with a remarkable fourth-place finish. The production version was officially unveiled to the public at the Milan Motor Show in 1975. Initially, production was to remain limited in order to concentrate efforts on competition. But success exceeded all expectations: more than 500 orders were received immediately after the unveiling, forcing the brand to revise its plans. The first 221 units produced in 1975 proved insufficient, and customers had to wait until the following year to receive their bikes. The model presented here is in its original condition, never restored, but always meticulously maintained, as evidenced by a file of invoices for major work. The carburetors have just been synchronized. The saddle currently fitted is new, and conforms to the original fit. It is accompanied by a Stucchi "comfort" leather saddle, which was originally fitted to the bike.
