Jean Georges BERDOT (Montbéliard 1614 - Sens or Paris before 1679) The conversion of Saint Paul Copper Height: 18 cm Width: 25 cm Our painting illustrates the talent of Berdot, who "peignoit fort bien en petit" (Félibien, Noms des peintres les plus célèbres et les plus connus, Paris, 1679). It is to be compared with other coppers by the artist: a first pair entitled "Haltes militaires devant de vastes paysages panoramiques", which appeared in the anonymous sale, Paris, Maître Tajan, June 25, 2003, no. 49 reproduced in color, and Ruines antiques animées de personnages, in the sale Neuilly, Maître Aguttes, June 22, 1999, no. 6 reproduced in color.
