1991 Mercedes-Benz 500 SL Unreserved Serial number: WDB12906 - Lot 108
1991 Mercedes-Benz 500 SL Unreserved Serial number: WDB1290661F038276 French Carte Grise - Beautiful Bornite hue - Mythical model - Valid Ct In the early 1980s, Mercedes-Benz began development of a replacement for the legendary SL R107, in production since 1972. This was a major challenge for the engineers in Stuttgart, given the R107's growing popularity over the years. Developed in parallel with the prestigious S-Class W140, the new SL - codenamed R129 - introduced cutting-edge technologies, enhanced passive safety and new engines, including a 5-liter V8 developing 326 hp. Designed by Bruno Sacco, its pure, taut lines stand the test of time admirably. In a career spanning almost 13 years, it underwent only one minor restyling, a testament to the accuracy of its design. The example we are offering is a 1991 500 SL, with just over 200,000 km. Imported into France in 2005, it has had three owners since. This cabriolet has been modified in the spirit of the AMG creations of the time, with a few distinctive styling elements, without altering the soul of the model. Serviced in 2023 in the official Mercedes-Benz network, this 500 SL is an excellent project for a return to the original, or an opportunity to access a characterful V8 convertible at a still reasonable price. The original hard top is to be found to complete this high-potential set. 1991 Mercedes-Benz 500 SL Serial number: WDB1290661F038276 French registration document - Beautiful Bornite colour - Legendary model - Valid Ct In the early 1980s, Mercedes-Benz began developing a replacement for the legendary SL R107, which had been in production since 1972.
