1961 Lancia APPIA Convertible - Lot 74
1961 Lancia APPIA Convertible No reserve Serial number: 812014800 Collector's registration - Design by Giovanni Michelotti for Vignale - Rare 3rd series version with original hard top - Only 1,600 produced In 1956, Lancia began working with leading Italian coachbuilders to create special variants based on the Appia, in order to revitalize its range and appeal to a more exclusive clientele. One of the most emblematic is the Cabriolet Vignale, unveiled in March 1957 and designed by a young Giovanni Michelotti. With its elegant lines, taut profile, horizontal grille and discreet American-inspired rear wings, this version immediately attracted the attention of prestige car enthusiasts. The model we present is a 1961 Appia Cabriolet, one of the last produced. It benefits from the evolutions of the third series: engine increased to 60 hp, optimized brakes, modernized headlamps. Remarkably, it comes with its rare original hard top, allowing the car to be enjoyed in all seasons, without altering the cabriolet's aesthetics. In an overall coherent and authentic condition, this Appia Vignale offers a high-quality base with definite aesthetic and heritage potential. Its mechanics are functional, but its technical inspection for a braking fault and a cracked windscreen will have to be regularized before it can be used with any peace of mind. With only 1,600 examples produced, this cabriolet remains extremely rare on the market, far more confidential than its contemporaries such as the Fiat 1200 Spider or the Alfa Romeo Giulietta. 1961 Lancia APPIA Convertible Serial number: 812014800 Collector's registration document - Design by Giovanni Michelotti for Vignale - Rare version of the third series with original hard top - Only 1,600 units produced In order to revitalise its range and appeal to a more exclusive clientele, Lancia began collaborating with leading Italian coachbuilders in 1956 to offer special variants based on the Appia.
