1960 Mercedes-Benz 220 SE Cabriolet - Lot 70
1960 Mercedes-Benz 220 SE Cabriolet Chassis W12803011002112 French registration The latest evolution of the W128, the 220 SE features a new engine with aluminum cylinder head and fuel injection, replacing the 220S's two carburetors. This model was delivered new in France in May 1960. It was subsequently registered in 1975 in Yonne. In 1976, it changed hands again and was registered in Paris. That same year, it was acquired by a French diplomat. Based in Los Angeles, he had the car shipped to California. Registered under a Californian diplomatic plate, he drove the 220 se for around ten years. In 1988, the car was acquired by another Frenchman based in California. Restored on site, it was repatriated to France in 1989. This enthusiast kept it until the early 2010s. Thereafter, there was only one enthusiast before the current owner, who acquired the car in 2017. Following her acquisition, she underwent an extensive refit (fittings, upholstery, mechanics) costing several thousand euros. Today, with the exception of a few bumps on the hood, this 220 SE is in generally good condition, the old restoration giving it a beautiful patina. A legendary model from the early 60s, the 220 SE combines modernity with the charm of pontoon lines. 1960 Mercedes-Benz 220 SE Cabriolet Chassis W12803011002112 French registration document The latest evolution of the W128, the 220 SE introduced a new engine with an aluminium cylinder head and fuel injection, replacing the two carburettors of the 220S.The example we are offering was delivered new in May 1960 in France.
