1989 Yamaha V Max - Lot 148
1989 Yamaha V Max French registration - Mythical neo-dragster design: a unique silhouette by John Reed. - Fearsome performance: 400 m from a standing start in just 11 seconds. - Remarkable condition: 8,678 original km and over €1,300 in recent servicing. In the early 1980s, Yamaha wanted to conquer the American market with a motorcycle with devastating style and breathtaking performance. To this end, the brand called on John Reed, an English designer based in California, to imagine what Yamaha would call The Ultimate Custom Bike. The muscular aesthetics of the future V Max were then refined by the GK Design International studio, to give birth to a hybrid motorcycle between dragster and custom, built around the V4 4-stroke engine and the 1200 Venture chassis. Presented to the public in Las Vegas in October 1984, the V Max instantly became a legend. Its extraordinary performance - 400 meters from a standing start in 11 seconds - and its body-built looks made a lasting impression. This model remained in the Yamaha catalog for 21 years, virtually unchanged, proof of its technical and aesthetic success. The example on offer here, dated 1989, is particularly remarkable: only 8,678 original km, and a recent complete overhaul (more than €1,300 worth of work) including, in particular, refurbishment of the rear brakes, overhaul of the clutch system, cleaning of the carburetors, de-rippling of the fuel pump, a new battery and a complete check-up of the bike.
