1994 Ducati 900 SS ZDM906SC2 - Lot 118
1994 Ducati 900 SS ZDM906SC2 N° 009579 French registration Without reserve - Ducati neo-retro icon: racy lines and assertive character. - Cagiva period, atypical production: Motorcycle imported by SIMA with plate. - Original parts maintenance included: Known history and original sidewalls available. The early 1990s marked a turning point for Ducati. Under the aegis of Cagiva, the Bologna-based brand began to modernize without abandoning its sporting roots. It was against this backdrop that the 900 SS (SuperSport) was born, a model that perfectly embodied the temperament of the L-shaped twin, the rigor of the Italian chassis and a design of rare purity. Minimalist, nervous and terribly endearing, the 900 SS of the 1990s quickly became an emblem of Ducati's return to favor on the world market. The model we offer was built in 1993, at a time when Ducati France did not yet exist as a commercial entity. At the time, importation was handled by SIMA in Beaune, under the direction of the legendary Marcel Seurat, an emblematic figure on the French motorcycling scene. As Marc Raymondin, then head of Brooklands Moto - the largest Ducati dealer in France, confirms, it was not uncommon to see machines without a Ducati manufacturer's plate, replaced by an importer's plate, as is the case here (on the left-hand steering column, serial number 009579, matching the vehicle registration document). This slightly "out of the ordinary" character reinforces the historical interest of this Ducati. It echoes Revue Moto Technique Hors-Série n°7 (September 1993), which presents identical configurations, with no apparent engine engraving under the left-hand crankcase - a feature also present on this example, whose authenticity and history are perfectly well known. Maintenance was carried out at Ducati Chambourcy, a guarantee of seriousness. Aesthetically, this 900 SS has been given a Joe Bar Team look, but the original, undecorated fairing sides are supplied with the bike, allowing a return to its authentic look. A veritable condensation of Ducati's pre-Audi takeover charm, this 1994 900 SS seduces with its taut lines, torquey engine and singular history linked to the Cagiva/SIMA period. We recommend that future purchasers carry out the customary recommissioning due to the immobilization of these machines in the collector's museum.
