1951 VINCENT Comet - Lot 100
1951 VINCENT Comet N° RC8724 Collector's registration No reserve - Exceptional history: ex-John Surtees - Matching numbers - Many vintage parts supplied Produced by the illustrious Vincent HRD company, the Comet 500 cc is one of the most striking icons of post-war British motorcycling. More affordable than its sister model, the Black Shadow, it is nonetheless a concentrate of old-world technology and elegance. A veritable showcase of Vincent know-how, the Comet combined high-performance mechanics with remarkable finish quality, making it an exceptional motorcycle for connoisseurs and enthusiasts alike. The model we're presenting today stands out not only for its excellent condition and "matching numbers" configuration, but also - and above all - for its unique history. This Comet once belonged to John Surtees, an absolute legend of motorsport and the only man to have won titles in both MotoGP and Formula 1. In May 1951, the young Surtees was an apprentice at Vincent: it was precisely at that time that he owned this motorcycle. A rare provenance, which makes this Comet much more than just a vintage motorcycle: a true witness to history. Delivered with its collector's registration, it is accompanied by a precious set of vintage parts and tools, including: rear suspension components, pump, complete original tool kit, tank mat, ET100/1 oil screw with seals, workshop tools, original folding Burman kick, various cables and a set of Craven cases with their holders - emblematic and hard-to-find accessories. We recommend that future purchasers carry out the customary restarts required by the immobilization of these machines in the collector's museum.
