ZOLA (Émile). Autograph letter signed [to M. Duport]. Paris, - Lot 119
ZOLA (Émile). Autograph letter signed [to M. Duport]. Paris, December 28, 1864. One p. in-8, printed letterhead "Librairie de L. Hachette et Cie". "Dear Sir, I did not see the Bouillet advertisement in L'Union. Please justify this insertion to me as soon as possible, and send me a paid invoice for the four insertions. We need this paper for our entries. Yours sincerely...". A rare letter from the young Zola. At the age of 24, he was working for the Hachette publishing house, and was concerned here about the advertisement requested from the Duport advertising agency, which was to appear in the newspaper L'Union, for Marie-Nicolas Bouillet's Dictionnaire universel d'histoire et de géographie, published by Hachette in 1864. Attached is a photographic portrait of Émile Zola (albumen print in carte de visite format on bristol, 1870s). Also included: a letter from Edith Cavell, a letter from Jean Cocteau, and two facsimiles, one of a letter from John Lennon, the other of a letter from Berthe Morisot.
