Gross weight: 5.5 g. 2 000 / 3 500 € The first company of musketeers was created by Louis XIII in 1622, from the personal guard of his father, Henri IV, whose soldiers were then equipped with carbines. Louis XIII equipped them with a more powerful weapon, the musket, from which the name musketeer was derived. They were a particularly versatile troop, capable of fighting on foot and on horseback, but also of leading assaults on enemy defenses during sieges. Their primary mission was to guard the sovereign, but they were also an elite fighting force. Louis XIV made them the spearhead of his armies during his campaigns. At the same time, the musketeers also played the role of political police. The musketeer corps was disbanded by Louis XVI in 1775. They were briefly rehabilitated during the Restoration in 1814, then abolished again during the second Restoration, after the Hundred Days, as they were too closely associated with the absolute monarchy of the Ancien Régime.
