A product of the Ancien Régime army, the 9th régiment de chasseurs à cheval had various names during its existence. In 1791, it was renamed the 9ème régiment de chasseurs à cheval. It was part of the Armée Centre commanded by Marshal Luckner and later by Kellermann. It fought in the Argonne, took part in the Valmy victory (September 20, 1791), and was present at Fleurus (June 18, 1794). Under the Consulate, he fought at Montebello and Marengo (1800), and between 1806 and 1808 took part in the conquest of the Kingdom of Naples. Defeated the Russian army at Wagram (1909). Experiences the disaster of the Russian campaign (1812). Fights at Leipzig (1813). In 1814, the 9th chasseurs broke through the center of the Russo-Prussian army at Montmirail with the Friant division (February 15), then distinguished itself at the ferme des Greneaux with the Guyot division and took part in the heroic defense of Paris (March 29-31, 1814). Under the 1st Restoration, the 9th chasseur regiment changed its name to "Colonel Général". On March 1, 1815, on the return of the Emperor, it reverted to the 9th chasseurs à cheval. On June 16, 1815, it engaged at Ligny, south of Waterloo, forcing the Prussians to retreat to St Amand-la-Hye and Wagnelee. On June 18, it fought at Waterloo. The 9th Régiment de Chasseurs à Cheval was disbanded with the fall of the Empire. Bibliography: Michel Pétard, "Équipements militaires 1804-1815" Tome IV, figure 373, page 55.
